Text about Hye Young Kim´s Work

"[...] This way the material and the possibilities of using colors have become more and more important for Kim in the course of her work. The soil, buried under layers of tar and concrete, also has to be featured in her paintings. Working with acrylic and oil-based paint she varies between a deliberate application and spontaneous choice of color. The latter is always an emotional risk, which could destroy what had already been achieved in the painting. But these aggressive moves make the artwork alive and capture the element of risk in the painting itself. Hye Young Kim shows constructions of reality, without her work seemingly being constructed. They leave space for interpretation. [...]"
